VANKLEEK HILL – Beau’s All Natural Brewing’s month-long winter beer celebration feBREWary will return again for 2014, kicking off Saturday February 1. The third annual edition of the event will help craft beer lovers chase away the winter doldrums, with a new feBREWary beer tapped each week at more than 70 participating restaurants and pubs across the province, and sold in 600 ml bottles from the brewery as well as through Ottawa home beer delivery service BYBO (www.bybo.ca).
The brewery, located about 50 minutes east of Ottawa, will also host weekly themed events to celebrate each beer’s release. New this year, Beau’s will run round trip buses to the brewery from Ottawa on each of the 5 Saturdays in feBREWary, so more people can get out and enjoy the new beers and onsite events planned. Every weekend features cask ale samples, free giveaways, and prizes, and each Saturday has a special theme:
Saturday, February 1 is the start of FeBREWary, and is also International Gruit Day, a yearly celebration of beers brewed with herbs instead of hops. Beau’s is one of a number of breweries across North America to mark the annual event (www.gruitday.com). Beau’s will be launching St. Luke’s Verse, a gruit brewed with rosemary, lavender, and thyme. Onsite at Beau’s that day will be homebrewing demos, as well as an informal “meet the brewer” open house for the true craft beer enthusiast.
Saturday February 8 launches Ellsmere’s Regret, a chocolate stout brewed with hemp and marshmallow. Riffing off that theme the brewery will have an outdoor winter bonfire party on the patio, with marshmallows & s’mores. That evening the brewery presents an evening of live music with The Fiftymen, Adam Harden, and Roadrunner at the Windsor Tavern in Vankleek Hill.
Saturday February 15 Beau’s reaches for the Gold, with Winter Games challenges for adults including bottle cap hockey, a stein-holding struggle, and more. Released that day will be Mission Accomplished, Beau’s new & super-hoppy American style IPA. Members of Beau’s Greener Futures beer club can also pick up the newest barrel aged release this day.
Saturday February 22 is dedicated to the foodies, as Beau’s hosts guest chef Bruce Wood, who will be onsite sampling Beau’s infused and inspired treats. Beau’s will also be unveiling the latest coffee-beer collaboration with Ottawa’s Bridgehead Roastery that week, called Collabrrrewnaut. Bridgehead will host a tasting party at the Roastery (130 Anderson St.) on Saturday night. Beau’s will also be bringing back Spring Seasonal Beaver River IP Eh this week, both at the brewery and in the LCBO.
Saturday March 1 will wrap up the month of feBREWary events with a big beach-themed party at Beau’s. A tented patio, hot tub, and beach-themed fun and activities are planned for this final Saturday. The beer release will be Wag the Wolf, a generously hopped wheat beer with big aromas of citrus and fruit, which will also be made available in the LCBO starting in March.
