KATY VS. SASHA: The Amber Rose from Covered Bridge Brewing Company

The Amber Rose from Covered Bridge Brewing Company
Katy and Sasha are the contributors for Ottawa Beer Events! They have distinctly different palates and in this segment they go head-to-head tasting Amber Rose by Covered Bridge Brewing Company.

I made the trek out to Covered Bridge Brewing Company in the middle of a snow storm. The radio was warning travellers about accidents and encouraging people to stay home, but I needed beer. And not just any beer, an American Amber Ale from Covered Bridge Brewing Company in Stittsville.

The Amber Rose pours a muddy (there was some sediment in my growler) red sandstone with frothy cream coloured head and a malt dominate aroma of sweet caramel and grain. For flavour the malt domination continues with sweet caramel, toffee and biscuits, but the hops haven't surrendered to the malt! Those bitter American citrus hops show up when you least expect it – after a swallow creating a wonderful balance between hops and malt.

Worth risking life and limb to grab during an Ottawa snowstorm? Totally. I'm beginning to really love the beer coming out of the small brewery in Stittsville!

3.5 out of 4 bottle caps

I thoroughly enjoyed the first 2 Covered Bridge brews that I've tried (Double Double and Bridge over the River Chai) so I was excited to dive yet another brew from the newly opened Stittsville brewery.

Amber Rose, their American Amber Ale pours a cloudy chestnut brown with a sweet caramel nose and a hint of orange.
The beer is heavy with caramel sweetness and just a hint of dried fruit flavours.
Overall it's velvety smooth with strong malt characters and just the right balance of sweetness. At 6.4% you won't hesitate in reaching for a second pint.

4 / 5 bottle caps

American Pale Ale is available in growlers at Covered Bridge Brewing Company (6-119 Iber Road, Stittsville).
