The 2014 edition of Beau’s Oktoberfest (October 3-4) is less than a month away and tickets for Saturday are over 80% sold, do you have yours?
There are plenty of non-beer reasons to attend – yummy food from over 24 local vendors, bands like Joel Plaskett Emergency and Tokyo Police Club will be on stage and don’t forget the Midway where you can try to win some awesome Beau’s swag (ring toss anyone?).
Let’s put all that other stuff aside for a moment and focus on the beer-y reasons why you should attend:
Along with The Tom Green Beer, Night•Märzen and Lug•Tread there will be beers from the Oktoberfest Mix Pack (now available at the LCBO) and seven brand new recipes!
With over 40 casks of unfiltered and unpasteurized beer available from breweries across Ontario, you might have a hard time leaving the tent.
The Ottawa homebrewing club, The Members of Barleyment, need your help in deciding a winner for their People's Choice competition. Sample homebrew and decide which one you thought tasted the best.
From cooking demonstrations to cheese pairings to lively debates between all things fermented – the School of Bock is a fun way to learn about the beer in your stein.
And remember this isn’t just a festival it’s a fundraiser with proceeds going to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Ottawa Riverkeeper, Just Food, Rethink Breast Cancer, Hidden Harvest, the VKH Agricultural Society ..and more!
So what are you waiting for? Grab your lederhosen or dirndl and buy your tickets now!
Tickets are available online for $22.00 each night or $33.00 for a weekend pass. Transportation is available from Ottawa, Montreal and Cornwall to Vankleek Hill for an additional $15.00.
The Beau’s Oktoberfest Ride is a 100/133km ride that begins in Ottawa and finishes at Beau’s Oktoberfest in Vankleek Hill, Ontario. 100 pre-registered riders will saddle up and hit the road, raising money for the United Way as they pedal! Road side support is offered by Kunstadt Sports.
For a minimum registration fee of $125.00, riders will get entrance to Beau's Oktoberfest, transportation back to Ottawa for the bike and rider, custom Beau's cycling jersey and cap (see other fundraising prizes).
The Members of Barleyment are pleased to announce the 2014 edition of the annual MoB & Beau’s Oktoberfest Homebrewing Competition.
The grand prize winner will get to brew their own recipe at Beau’s All Natural Brewing Company. Additional prizes (to be announced) will be offered up by other brewery and homebrew suppliers. Among the handsome MoB medals given to all those brewers who placed in each flight, last year’s prizes included kegs from OntarioBeerKegs and merchandise from Covered Bridge Brewing. Stay tuned for further prize details!
As with last year, we plan to have our competition included in the Canadian Brewer of the Year (http://www.canadianbreweroftheyear.com/) and the Brewer of the Year (http://www.breweroftheyear.com/) competitions!
This event is 2 competitions in 1!
The first is a BJCP-sanctioned competition:
All beer categories in the 2008 BJCP Style Guidelines will be accepted (Categories 1-23).
As with last year, we will have a category 99 option—details on this “style” to follow
Each brewer can submit a maximum of one entry per subcategory.
The second is a People’s Choice competition:
Attendees of Beau’s Oktoberfest 2014 will take part in judging your homebrew!
The People’s Choice Judging promotes beer literacy by getting non-homebrewers to judge competition-worthy homebrew and consult the BJCP guidelines.
Details of People’s Choice entries will be provided in a later announcement.
Entry Deadline is Friday, September 12, 2014.
For more information and updates see the Competition website: http://mob-competitions.tumblr.com/
Beau's has released the Cask list for Beau's Oktoberfest (October 4th and 5th in Vankleek Hill). What is cask beer? It's beer brewed from traditional ingredients, matured and served from a cask. This means it's fresh, unfiltered, served at a higher temperature and has a different taste than beer served on draught.
Das Hangover! We'll be hosting a Bavarian-themed brunch at the brewery
to cap off the 2013 Oktoberfest festivities. We invite all to share a
meal and raise a glass in celebration on family & community. This
all-ages event will feature all 9 Oktoberfest beers on tap, a full
brunch menu as created by Seed To Sausage, live accordian music by Ray
Baumgarten, and hot beverages by Bridgehead."
The Unshaven Mavens is a group of women who grow their underarm hair for the entire month of October and raise funds in support of Rethink Breast Cancer, a Canadian breast cancer charity that brings bold, relevant awareness to the under-40 crowd. The mission of the Unshaven Mavens campaign is to increase awareness of early detection of breast cancer in the underarm area, not just the breast.
To launch their third campaign the Unshaven Mavens are having a party on September 6 at Mercury Lounge (56 Byward Market Square) and everyone's invited. Support a great cause and join them for music, drinks, live entertainment and prizes! Your $5.00 entry fee gives you one free raffle ticket and if you're one of the first 50 through the door you'll get an extra raffle ticket.
If you can't make it to the party then you can support the Unshaven Mavens at Beau's Oktoberfest. They'll be on hand asking for your support and leading the raffle tickets sales for Beau's Face On A Cap contest.
