Waller Street Brewing is releasing their first beer today – the Speakeasy Red, which brewer Marc-André Chainey indicates "doesn't really fall into any category, but if you really want to type and label it, we call it a Belgian American Red Rye Session IPA."
A "light" beer with big taste, one smell and you'll be convinced!
This beer gave us trouble because it was never good enough for us. Through all the permutations at every trial and tribulation we always felt it could be better. We always knew there was potential for MORE. In the end the secret ingredient was the age old adage that LESS is more.
The flavours in this beer are big in nature, but it’s in the subtleties of a balanced beer that they really shine! So we made this beer into a “light beer” like no other.
Available on tap today, Friday February 20th,at the Lunenburg Pub.
Today Domionion City Brewing Company is releasing their "Le Hibou" Black Witbier.
It is described as a deceptively light and refreshing Belgian Wit with characteristic tangy, spicy and citrus notes integrated with light roast and chocolate brewed with locally-sourced organic flaked wheat. Dee-licious and available at the bottle shop this Friday and Saturday.
Using fresh hops from our backyard and Arklow Farm in Perth, this black IPA is the best of local.
Arklow Farm has been in continuous operation for over 200 years, starting in the early 1800s. In the early 1900s it was part of a national network of experimental farms producing certified barley and agricultural conservation techniques. Today it is a member of the Ontario Hop Growers Association, continuing its agricultural tradition by producing high quality, organic hops.
We feel fortunate to have worked with both these businesses to produce this dark, malty IPA that is our take on a hauntingly good harvest ale.
Wiches brew is available at the brewery in Growlers (1.89l/64 oz) and Half Growlers (0.95l/32oz).
Cassel Brewery has released their limited edition Harvest Ale today.
Mario Bourgeois, Co-owner and Brewmaster spoke about the beer in a post we did earlier this month on Harvest Ales:
"We obtained hops from what was harvested back in 1920 in Fournier ON! That hop is said to be a bohemian likely Saaz. Up to 1958 they employed well over 2000 people to help during the harvesting season. A retired belgian farmer kept some plants and multiplied them over the years. We were lucky to get 10lbs of dried hops and we are likely the first one to brew again with this hop which once was very popular. Our supplier got an interview with an 87 year old man who was the third generation to harvest this hop, he was employing over 600 people on his farm only… yep all in Fournier ON!"
The flavours of this beer range from spicy to floral to earthy, bitterness is well balanced with an intriguing aroma.
The Harvest ale is available at Cassel Brewery however only 200 were bottled so you'll want to drop in and get some soon!
Broadhead Brewing Company just released Pie-eyed Apple Wheat, made with real apple cider freshly pressed from Pieter’s Appleyard, out near Belleville and a light bitterness from Cascade hops from Lot 17 in a smooth wheat ale.
Pie-eyed Apple Wheat is is available for purchase at Broadhead brewing's retail store. With only close to 1500 L brewed you'll want to get it before it's gone!
Dominion City Brewing Company's latest seasonal is the Earnscliffe ESB. It blends caramel and biscuit malt notes with mild earthy hop aroma. A rich, full-flavoured ale, this quintessential style is popular in traditional UK pubs. This beer is named for the residence of Canada’s first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald; now home to the British High Commissioner to Canada. Sounds stodgy; tastes bloody brilliant.
Earnscliffe ESB is available for purchase at Dominion City's retail store while quantities last!
Kichesippi Beer Company released Wuchak UK, a traditional English IPA and the fourth of the Wuchak IPA series. The 5.1% ABV, 39 IBU beer is brewed with Canadian 2-Row, British specialty malts, Challenger and Progress hops and fermented with British Ale yeast.
Wuchak UK is available in growlers at the Kichesippi retail store and at select pubs and restaurants in the Ottawa-area.
Last week Covered Bridge Brewing Company, located in Stittsville, released Seoirse the Great, an Irish Red brewed in memory of brewer/owner John vanDyk’s grandfather who passed away shortly before the brewery opened. When asked about his grandfather John says, "He taught me so much and was always supportive of me, even when I told him about our crazy idea of opening a brewery."
The 6% ABV, 22 IBU is described as follows:
This ruby toned Irish Red ale is medium bodied with a toffee-like maltiness. Lightly hopped, this beer finishes with a light taste of roasted grain and dark caramel sweetness. Perfect for the crisp days and cool nights of autumn.
This special release is available at the brewery in Growlers (1.89l/64 oz) and Half Growlers (0.95l/32oz).
Beau's All Natural Brewing Company has announced details of their limited artisinal malt liquor called Hardcore 8.1 that pays tribute to Canadian punk pioneers, D.O.A. The paper bag package beer is described as follows:
A certified organic, classy interpretation of the infamous malt liquor style, Hardcore 8.1 is a deep-gold coloured lager that mingles malt and fruit notes in three-chord harmony with honey-like elements.
