Broadhead Brewing Company 3
Ottawa’s underdog Broadhead Brewing Company Ltd has been selected to showcase their beers this weekend at the popular ‘Session Toronto’ craft beer festival …and in doing so, they will also support fellow craft brewers in the Nation’s capital.
As part of the beer line-up at this weekends event, Broadhead have worked with organizers from the National Capital Craft Beer Festival to create a special collaboration beer.
“We were thinking – How can we let craft beer fans in Toronto know just how exciting things are here in Ottawa?” says Josh Larocque, Head Brewer Guy & co-owner of Broadhead Brewing Company, “We thought that teaming up with the National Capital Craft Beer Festival would let them know just how alive & well our craft beer scene is …and maybe they’ll plan a beer tour vacation here this summer.”
Packing an awesome-gnarly-radical punch is our Session Toronto ‘Collaboration Nation’ creation – Bodacious Brewberry Blonde Ale. When you take a sip of this clear golden blonde ale you’ll have a taste of the summer, but watch out – there’s a wallop of blueberry flavour and aroma in there. Brewed with local blueberries from Canaan Blueberries just outside of Ottawa. We tried to make it blue, but it turns out you really need a ‘lot’ of blueberries to make that happen!
Session Toronto runs June 13 & 14
National Capital Craft Beer Festival runs August 15, 16 & 17

head-to-head tasting Harvest Amber Ale by Broadhead Brewing Company.
Broadhead's Harvest Amber Ale pours a reddy/copper colour with a white fizzy head and has a faint aroma of sweet bready malts. The taste follows the smell with upfront flavours of caramel, bread, malt and a subtle citrus finish.
This beer is loaded with the entire Cascade yield from Lot 17 Hop Yard in Cambellford, but it isn't very bitter – ringing in at 20 International Bitterness Units (Alexander Keith's IPA is around 20-25 for reference).
While hop heads like me are probably going to be a little disappointed, those who aren't into big hoppy beers or are easing their way into hops may find this one of the more approachable harvest ales available.
Harvest Amber Ale pours like the color of natural honey with a thick
and foamy head, which lingers long after it's poured. The warm toffee
aroma overwhelms you, with a barely there scent from the cascade hops.
beer definitely tastes exactly how it smells – a toasty caramel
sweetness, with a hint of citrus and warmth from the alcohol on the
finish, which is unexpected with an ABV of only 5%.
very smooth beer that doesn't linger on your palate, easy to drink
after a hard days work, however surprisingly sweet for a harvest ale.
Harvest Amber Ale is available for a limited time at Broadhead Brewing Company (81 Auriga Drive #14) in growlers and select pubs/restaurants.
